Established in 1998, Hunt Engineering has been providing mechanical, plumbing, electrical and low voltage systems consulting engineering for over 25 years. Hunt Engineering provides engineering services for most types of buildings, from educational to institutional, data centers to warehouses, boarding homes to hospitals and retail to office. Overview of Key Staff
Licensed as a professional engineer for electrical and mechanical and certified as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), John Hunt (principal) provides a well-rounded view of what it takes to engineer a building from the ground up. Joining him are our expert project managers and principle designers. David Heylen (mechanical designer, project manager) has over 30 years of experience, with 15 years in heavy industry process piping design prior to his 20 plus years with Hunt Engineering. Ilona Kalashnikova (engineer, project manager) joined Hunt Engineering in 2019 and has particular experience with airport facilities and communication systems.

John Hunt P. E./ Mechanical and Electrical Engineer / Principal in Charge
President and Chief of Engineering of Hunt Engineering since its founding in 1998, John Hunt has the overall working knowledge of design and construction administration to successfully guide projects through the design and construction process. He has extensive experience in electrical and mechanical engineering and design for a wide range of commercial and institutional clients. He demonstrates particular expertise with facilities that operate on a 24/7 basis; his large breadth of knowledge facilitates the coordination and design of the many different systems involved in these buildings. John Hunt is unique in that he is a registered Electrical and Mechanical Engineer as well as being RCDD-certified.

David Heylen/ Project Manager and Senior Designer
David Heylen has over 35 years of experience serving as a mechanical designer and project manager. His design experience includes building HVAC and plumbing systems as well as significant experience in heavy industrial process piping. He has designed systems for a wide range of facilities including: data centers, restaurants, schools, health care facilities, animal shelters, office buildings, apartment buildings, churches, pulp & paper mills and metals reprocessing plants. David Heylen has worked on projects for a variety of clients including: King County, Highline School District, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Port of Seattle (SeaTac Airport), Verizon and T-Mobile, as well as industrial clients such as Weyerhaeuser and Boise Cascade.

Ilona Kalashnikova/ Engineer and Project Manager
Ilona Kalashnikova has been involved with the design and production of multiple MEP systems for a variety of projects of varying scales, from large data centers to smaller community center ADA upgrades. Ilona’s overall perspective of project design and implementation in complex environments provides a strong basis for her engineering work. She has acted as project manager for a number of clients and her strong interpersonal skills enhance the performance of the teams she works with. Notably, Ilona served as the primary project designer on a multi-year building upgrades project with the Port of Seattle. Recent projects include data center upgrades for HVAC and power, generator upgrades, and commercial office design.

Hannah Seyler E. I. T. / Engineer and Designer
Hannah Seyler approaches her work with great attention to detail and brings particular knowledge of energy efficiency to her projects. Since joining Hunt Engineering in 2026, Hannah has assisted in system designs and drafted MEP drawings. Hannah completed her M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Arizona State University, where she finished at the top of her class. She has worked with Stantec, Z Modular and Scheider Electric as an intern. Hannah’s previous experience in energy systems and MEP design includes project work on practical applications of software and hardware in heat transfer, autonomous systems, and finite element analysis.

Brandi Hunt/ Office Manager and Accounting
Brandi Hunt provides office management and accounting for Hunt Engineering. Her attention to detail ensures accurate and detailed reporting. Brandi Hunt has been with Hunt Engineering since its founding in 1998 and works closely with the project managers for project tracking and office support. She also manages all accounts and payroll.
